Rather than force these love-stories into serial monogamies, this collection lets them overlap and tell a story of romantic and sexual multiplicity, a story of compassionate and passionate complexity. The Exit Show is about coming to terms with plurality. The work is sensual, human, and multifaceted. It depicts an intimate view of polyamoury in many configurations. Aesthetically the poetry is focused on sound and imagery, on the music/cadence of language, while the ideas depict a world outside models of monogamous hetero-normalcy. Variation in social forms are expressed, in part, through variations of poetic style that range from emails to prose poetry to lyric and beyond into integrated linguistic architectures. Angels roam the pages.

REVIEW QUOTE:

"Sex, in this book, becomes a vehicle for comprehension. Anne F. Walker’s fourth collection of poetry, The Exit Show, draws on multiple sexual and romantic partners as a way to explore and articulate complex social and poetic forms. Walker’s collection flows easily through a variety of formal and not-so-formal constructions (prose poems, emails, individual lyrics, and lyric suites), tied together by a powerful rhythmic sensibility reminiscent of a jazz drummer."
